Extractive Industries Civil Society (EICS)
Extractive Industries Civil Society (EICS) in the UK is a registered not-for-profit. Along with a growing number of wholly independent NGOs/CSOs in developing economies, most notably Africa, we represent communities which benefit from well-run, efficient and transparent extractive industries.
Our aim is simply to help communities, local and national economies, benefit from the activities of the extractives sectors, particularly through working towards both transparency and an intelligent, constructive tripartite relationship with government and industry. We seek to achieve our objectives though effective relationships, negotiation and carefully-targetted organising. We believe that the extractive industries are of great importance and can have a profoundly positive effect on local economies. We take an open mind on new technologies and believe that transparency is the key to public confidence.
Our members come from those communities and areas affected by the extractive industries. If you would like to join us, or would like your own group to affiliate there is no cost; simply contact us at email@example.com and we will be in touch right away. Tweet us too @civilextractive and follow us for updates on UK EITI information and blog posts. If you or your organisation would like to have more information let us know or indeed just join our open google group:
We have some resources to provide free advice to community organisations with similar aims, in the UK and elsewhere in the world. We provide half of the civil society representation (two full members and two alternate members) at the UK EITI Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG) and we are a civil society member of the EITI Association. We help community organisations achieve better outcomes for their citizens and are involved in a number of projects at any one time. If you would like to join us as an individual or affiliate as an organisation, please contact us. If you are a civil society organisation with similar objectives, wherever you may be in the world, we will be happy to assist you in any way we can. We have been able to be of assistance to such groups in a number of way in the recent past, following referral to us. Under no circumstances do we seek to influence the policy or objectives of other CSOs.
