An Important New Essay on Rwanda
Rwanda has made remarkable progress since the terrible events of 1994. The country is one of the best inter-government development partners in the world and serious private sector investors are paying it ever-closer attention. Rwanda is responding in kind. The Rwandan government is the first to recognise that there’s much more progress to be made on all fronts, and it is forging ahead, but perceptions amongst investors from developed nations are sometimes clouded by the often one-sided nature of reportage around political space and human rights. The former US diplomat, Richard Johnson, has written a powerful essay which aims to provide those interested in Rwanda with a much fuller understanding of post-genocide Rwanda. We thoroughly recommend it. Rwandans are working hard to move to middle-income status by 2020, to move from aid recipient to investment destination of choice. Plenty of seasoned businessfolk are with them on the journey now – the more the merrier.
