The International Committee of the Red Cross held an excellent  photographic exhibition called Somalia a Humanitarian Story last night. They used, to good effect, the ultra modern glass annexe attached to the old red stone Royal Geographical Society building in Knightsbridge:

Photographs and words described the  story of  war, unrest, drought and poverty since the end of the Second World War, when Italian prisoners of war were evacuated from Abyssynia through Somaliland and after that the  important work of the ICRC in Somalia in taking food, water and medical supplies to people in Somalia. The pictures showed the makeshift hospitals, the ships that brought food aid and more importantly  the people of Somalia enduring in drought ridden, rural and war torn urban landscapes. It was well organised and well attended by the Somali community in London.
