UK Extractive Industries agree to publish names of Beneficial Owners

The UK EITI Multi-Stakeholder Group is setting high standards for the EITI, a global initiative. While the UK does not in any way  have the same economic interests or the large scale of corruption that we find in some African countries or others in Central Asia, it is none the less trying to set a high standard in London for the EITI.  Civil Society members who include representatives from Global Witness have pushed for this important change, building on excellent working relationships between industry, civil servants and NGOs in the UK EITI MSG. The UK is now the first to publish the names of Beneficial Owners in the extractive industries and thereby take further steps to improve transparency in the oil and gas sector and mining.
